An unexpected act of charity

An unexpected act of charity

Easter looked different for all of us this year, but can you imagine having to wait in line for at least 5 hours just to have access to essentials at your local grocery store?

That’s the situation in some parts of the Bronx, a place hundreds of Seton students and their families call home.

So when the brother of a Seton staff member heard about the significant challenges our families are facing, he hooked up a U-Haul trailer to his truck and drove from Massachusetts to New York to deliver crucial resources, including…

An entire cow.

Yes, that’s right. As the owner of a working farm, this generous man delivered fresh, prepackaged beef, enough to feed 50 Brilla Charter School families in time for the Easter weekend. And this was his second trip into the city—he and his wife had already purchased food and supplies from areas where there weren’t shortages and delivered them right after our schools first closed.

Our team at Brilla Charter Schools also gave out care packages that included medical supplies, nonperishable food items, cleaning products, and Easter treats for the students put together by the daughters of these generous donors.

You see, even as we love our neighbors by following social distancing guidelines, there are still many ways to serve. Think about it: donating a cow! Such an out-of-the-box solution points to the creative capacity we have as people made in the image of God. And that’s what #LivingHope is all about.

God bless our Brilla staff and families as they continue shining brightly amidst this crisis!

Yet many of our families still don’t have access to basic resources, and your faithful contributions to the COVID-19 Emergency Family Support Fund are helping them get the support they need amidst supply shortages in urban areas where the pandemic rages on.

Will you join us in spreading hope?
